Linen is one of the world's most eco-friendly fabrics
Linen's environmental superiority is not based on a single characteristic, but on comparisons made throughout its entire life cycle. These evaluations are typically conducted using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), where different fibers are measured against the same criteria.
The main criteria considered in these analyses include:
- Water consumption (distinction between blue water / rainwater)
- Energy usage
- Carbon footprint (CO₂ emissions)
- Fertilizer and pesticide use
- Soil impact and biodiversity
- Need for chemical processing
- Durability and product lifespan
- Biodegradability and end-of-life impact
The European Commission's Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) initiatives and various textile LCA studies (e.g., Textile Exchange, European Confederation of Flax and Hemp) compare fibers based on these criteria.
Comparatively:
- Cotton → high water and chemical use
- Polyester → fossil fuel-based, microplastic, and high carbon impact
- Viscose / rayon → chemically intensive processes and forest-related risks
- Linen → low input, low intervention, high durability
Therefore, linen is considered one of the fibers with a lower environmental impact when its entire life cycle is taken into account.
LIMITED WATER CONSUMPTION AND CHEMICAL USAGE
From field to fiber: The flax plant grows in Europe, nourished by natural rainwater, with limited need for additional irrigation. Thanks to its robust structure, it does not require intensive use of fertilizers and pesticides.
It is also grown as a rotation crop, typically returning to the same field every 6–7 years. This system allows the soil to rest, maintains agricultural balance, and naturally limits production.
This approach makes European flax a rarer and more valuable natural fiber.
OUR LINEN IS PRODUCED CARBON NEUTRAL
From fiber to fabric: Harvested flax is left in the field to be separated into fibers under natural conditions. This process, which takes place under the influence of sun, humidity, and time, does not require additional chemical treatment.
The linen fabrics we use are produced with 100% renewable energy, and the production process is carbon-neutral. According to LCA data, this approach provides an approximately 58% lower carbon footprint compared to conventional linen fabric production.
Certified for excellence
Our fabrics are certified with Belgian Linen and Masters of Linen. These certifications indicate that the entire production process of the linen, from field to yarn, and from yarn to fabric, takes place 100% in Europe and meets superior quality standards.
Our linens and mother-of-pearl accessories are OEKO-TEX certified, guaranteeing that no harmful substances are used in the production process.
OUR PRODUCTS REMAIN ON THE SHELF FOR AN AVERAGE OF 1.83 YEARS
As a slow fashion brand, we ensure our products are designed with lasting materials and silhouettes that do not go out of style from season to season. Each season, in addition to newly produced items, we also feature continuing products from previous seasons in our stores.
ZERO WASTE AND CIRCULARITY
From fabric to product: Linen's durable nature ensures long-lasting products. A longer lifespan is one of the most important factors in reducing a product's overall environmental impact.
Our design approach supports products being used for multiple seasons, reducing resource consumption by spreading it over time.
We collect and re-evaluate all fabric waste generated during the production process. We design smaller products and objects from the leftover pieces.
LIFETIME WARRANTY
We design our products to be long-lasting. We encourage our customers to send products back for repair or repurposing. We offer discounts for returned products. No products in our inventory are ever thrown away by us.
